Kolkata: Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Avadh University in Ayodhya has officially adopted the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 from the 2025-26 academic session. The new rules will apply to both undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) courses, including those taught in its affiliated colleges.
The Higher Education Department's revised framework under NEP 2020 introduces a standardized four-year undergraduate program with a uniform credit structure. Under this system, both undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) courses will follow a consistent 20-credit-per-semester format. This unified approach aims to streamline academic progression across higher education programs while maintaining flexibility for students. The credit-based system will apply to all disciplines, ensuring a cohesive structure for degree completion at both UG and PG levels.
The new NEP 2020 system will be introduced in Science, Arts, and Commerce departments. Four-year undergraduate programs like BA, B.Sc, and BCom including honors and research-based degrees will follow this structure. Postgraduate courses such as MA, MSc, and M.Com will also be part of this change. However, existing three-year undergraduate courses will continue as before without any changes, as confirmed by ANI.
Under the new system, students will first join a standard three-year degree program (BA, BSc, or B.Com) at the university or its affiliated colleges. After completing these three years, they can choose to continue for a fourth year to earn either a four-year honours degree or a research-based honours degree. However, students must select their initial course (BA/BSc/BCom) at the time of admission.
If a student completes the three-year degree and later wants to pursue a four-year program, they will need to reapply for admission to a postgraduate (PG) course in their chosen field. This ensures flexibility while maintaining structured academic progression.
